Dr. S.A.F.T. (Sacha) van HijumRadboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre Sacha van Hijum (born Bedum, The Netherlands in 1972, PhD in 2004 at Groningen University, RUG, in The Netherlands) is a molecular biologist by training who did bioinformatics post-docs at the RUG and the University of Greifswald (Germany) and started working at NIZO food research in 2008. He is leader of the NIZO bioinformatics group, leader of the Bacterial Genomics group (founded by Prof. Siezen; CMBI, NCMLS, RUNMC), bioinformatics coordinator of TIFN, and principle investigator of the new NBIC metagenomics taskforce. Research in these groups is strongly linked to projects at TIFN, NIZO, Kluyver, NBIC, and academic collaborations. Focus is on the bioinformatics analysis of ~omics data of (consortia of) bacteria in the context of industrial fermentations, health and safety. The research involves (meta)genome sequencing and assembly, annotation, comparative genomics, RNA-seq, transcriptomics and multivariate analysis of ~omics datasets, all in relation to exploration and exploitation of the enormous microbial diversity that is found in Nature. << back to overview |
