Caius Rommens directs one of the few genetic engineering programs at a food company. Some new product concepts include the zero-acrylamide French fry, low-fat French fry replacements, and the Idaho Orange. Before his tenure at Simplot Company in Boise, ID, Caius led the Natural Disease Control program at Monsanto. He also worked as postdoctoral fellow with Brian Staskawicz in Berkeley, CA, on the isolation of disease resistance genes, and completed his PhD thesis on transposon tagging in tomato at the Free University in Amsterdam, NL.
